PROGRAM

On April 27, 2011, Hunter College Center for LGBT Social Science and Public Policy Visiting Distinguished Speaker Series presented “Urvashi Vaid: Still Ain’t Satisfied: Equality & the Limits of LGBT Politics.”

This provocative lecture by renowned LGBT leader and activist Urvashi Vaid took a critical look at the choices and strategies of today’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) movement. What does life look like after equality? Will formal equality change the lived experience of all LGBT people or just the already privileged? What has dropped off the mainstream LGBT agenda and why? Is co-optation the inevitable fall-out of winning?
