PROGRAM

On February 22, 2012, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) held a Town Hall Event at the Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College to answer questions about credit card debt, student loans, etc.

At the town hall, the audience had the chance to hear from CFPB Director Richard Cordray about the consumer bureau’s mission and current work, including a new effort around checking accounts. They were also invited to share stories about their personal experiences with financial products and services during our open-microphone session.

About the Bureau:

The CFPB was created by the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act and is the first federal agency devoted to consumer protection in the financial marketplace. The goal of the CFPB is to empower consumers, help consumers understand financial products, and to protect consumers from being exploited.
