PROGRAM

Please join us at Roosevelt House on the Monday after Election Day as we welcome Face the Nation moderator and Slate columnist John Dickerson, who will discuss his New York Times best-seller Whistlestop: My Favorite Stories from Presidential Campaign History in conversation with Harold Holzer, the Jonathan F. Fanton Director of Roosevelt House. They will talk about the bruising and reckless campaigns of the past, including nineteenth century elections when the candidates believed the consequences included the fate of the republic itself – and about this year’s presidential campaign, which seemed to many to have similarly high stakes.

In addition to hosting Face the Nation, John Dickerson serves as Political Director for CBS News and is a contributor to Slate magazine and its podcast “The Political Gabfest.” Dickerson has been a reporter in Washington for almost 20 years, covering the White House, Congress and economics.  Before joining Slate in 2005, Dickerson covered politics for 12 years for Time magazine.  His previous book, On Her Trail, is about his mother, Nancy Dickerson, CBS News’ first female correspondent.

This special event also celebrates the continuing Roosevelt House exhibit, “See How They Ran! FDR & His Opponents: Campaign Treasures From the New-York Historical Society.”
