PROGRAM

On November 17, 2010, Carole Pateman, Distinguished Professor of Political Science at UCLA and President of the American Political Science Association, spoke at Roosevelt House to a packed house of students, professors and human rights professionals about two intractable problems in human rights: obstacles to women’s human rights and the right to a decent standard of living. Professor Pateman led a wide-ranging discussion looking at the historic treatment of women’s rights and economic rights, legal developments regarding them over the past century, and the political and cultural challenges to their realization that exist today. Assistant Professor of Political Science Robyn Marasco offered commentary on the talk, which was moderated by the Chair of Hunter’s new Human Rights Program, Professor of Political Science John Wallach. The event was co-sponsored by the Human Rights Program, the School of Arts and Sciences, the Department of Political Science, the Department of Philosophy, and the Women and Gender Studies Program.
