PROGRAM

A special evening commemorating the 70th anniversary of D-Day as Roosevelt House welcomed Nigel Hamilton, the award-winning biographer whose new book is The Mantle of Command: FDR at War, 1941-1942, and Allen Packwood, Director of Churchill Archives Centre & Fellow of Churchill College. Moderated by Andrew Polsky, Acting Ruth and Harold Newman Dean of the School of Arts & Sciences, Hunter College, and author, most recently, of Elusive Victories: The American Presidency at War.

The authoritative discussion focused on the war leadership of FDR and Churchill, and offered new insights into their military decisions, the strengths and weaknesses of both men and how their special relationship developed and endured — when they agreed and when they were at odds. The conversation paid particular attention to the preparations for the invasion of Western Europe and the opening of the second front against Nazi Germany.
