PROGRAM

Ruth Messinger, President of American Jewish World Service, will discuss her life as an activist and politician in New York City and beyond. From serving on the New York City Council to running for Mayor in 1997, Messinger has had a long career of public service and advocacy, which includes grassroots efforts in New York to fight for small businesses and manufacturers, increase support for public schools and colleges, limit tax incentive programs, and improve neighborhood access to local development planning and grassroots efforts overseas to empower women and girls to build and strengthen civil society and to protect natural resources.  At the brown bag talk, she will discuss two urgent policy areas – inequality and the status of women – and how strategic partnerships can help create change at the local, national and global level. Lunch will be served.
