PROGRAM

On January 23, 2015, Roosevelt House hosted a rare opportunity to meet Ken Burns and Geoffrey C. Ward, creators of the acclaimed PBS documentary, “The Roosevelts: An Intimate History,” and authors of the bestselling companion book.  Burns and Ward spoke about their latest collaboration in the very house where so much of the Roosevelts’ history unfolded.

The program included a screening highlights from the seven-part documentary showcasing the notable events in Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt’s lives that took place during their long residence at Roosevelt House. Following the screening, Burns and Ward were interviewed by Jonathan Rosenberg, associate professor of history at Hunter College.

NPR has called The Roosevelts Kens Burns’s best documentary to-date: “Each of these Roosevelts, if studied individually, would be fascinating. But looking at them together is a revelation – a storytelling synergy, where the whole ends up being even more valuable than the sum of its parts.”

We invite you to meet Ken Burns and Geoffrey C. Ward, author of Before the Trumpet: The Young Franklin Roosevelt, and to discover more about the lives of Franklin, Eleanor, and Sara Roosevelt – and the history of Roosevelt House.
