The Roosevelt House Public Policy Program Presents:
Modeling COVID-19:
Disease Burdens, Economic Activities, and Policy Outcomes

Join via Zoom:  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82518969936

Finding appropriate measures to mitigate the effects of COVID-19 cannot be addressed without an understanding of the epidemiological modeling of how the disease spreads, an empirical analysis of the disproportionate burden on some communities, and the important outcomes of social policies. In this workshop, the speakers will describe ways that infections travel over networks and the differential impacts on subpopulations (e.g. young, old, living in densely populated or rural areas). The discussion will lead to a richer understanding of the challenges faced by a pandemic of this magnitude and policy options. The panelists will present empirical evidence to quantify disease trajectories over time, the effects of stay-at-home policies and mobility on disease burden, and the role of industry location (e.g. nursing homes and meatpacking plants) on disease burden. Their analyses will provide critical insights, and most importantly, provide frameworks for policy recommendations in the immediate months to come.

Join us from 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM EDT on Wednesday, May 27 at for a conversation, moderated by Shyama Venkateswar, Director, Public Policy Program & Distinguished Lecturer, Roosevelt House, featuring Twisha Asher, Department of Economics, The Graduate Center, CUNY; Matthew Baker, Department of Economics, Hunter College and The Graduate Center, CUNY; Jonathan Conning, Department of Economics, Hunter College and The Graduate Center, CUNY; and Partha Deb, Department of Economics, Hunter College and The Graduate Center, CUNY.
