PROGRAM

Please join us as we welcome Stephen Hess, senior fellow emeritus in Governance Studies at the Brookings Institution, to discuss his latest book, America’s Political Dynasties: From Adams to Clinton, a provocative look of the families that have loomed large over America’s political history. There are the well-known dynasties such as the Roosevelts and the Kennedys, and the names that live on only in history books, such as the Bayards (six generations of U.S. senators) and the Breckinridges (a vice president, two senators, and six representatives). Hess focuses as well on the present day, and examines contemporary families including the Bushes and the Clintons. Hess speaks at Roosevelt House a week after the conclusion of the 2016 primary season, and will address the dynastic implications of a possible second Clinton presidency.
