PROGRAM

Please join us at Roosevelt House as we welcome Chase Strangio, American Civil Liberties Union staff attorney, in conversation with Charles Kaiser, associate director of the LGBT Social Science & Public Policy Center at Hunter College. They will discuss the ACLU’s pending case against the Pentagon that challenges its new ban on military service by men and women who are transgender.

Strangio, a member of the ACLU’s LGBT & HIV Project, has also been the lawyer for Chelsea Manning and part of the legal team representing Gavin Grimm at the Supreme Court. His work includes impact litigation, as well as legislative and administrative advocacy, on behalf of LGBTQ people and people living with HIV across the United States. He has particular expertise on the treatment of transgender and gender non-conforming people in police custody, jails, prisons and other forms of detention. Kaiser is the author of three books, including The Gay Metropolis.

We hope you will participate in this important conversation.
