PROGRAM

Please join us at Roosevelt House as we welcome Wendy Lesser, author of You Say to Brick: The Life of Louis Kahn, the first biography of the iconic American architect that delves fully into his life and work.

The architect Louis Kahn was born to a Jewish family in Estonia in 1901 and brought to America in 1906. He grew up in poverty in Philadelphia, but by the time of his death in 1974, he was widely recognized as one of the greatest architects of his era. Lesser will discuss Kahn’s two “Roosevelt” projects: the 1930s New Deal worker housing community in Jersey Homesteads, New Jersey; and his posthumous masterpiece,  the presidential memorial Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park, on Roosevelt Island.

Nathaniel Kahn, the son of Louis Kahn and the director of the award-winning documentary My Architect, will introduce Lesser’s talk, which is co-sponsored by Roosevelt House and Four Freedoms Park Conservancy.
