An article in “Science,” the journal of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), “Amid pandemic disruptions, grad students push to unionize” by Katie Langin,  cites Roosevelt House Faculty Associate William A. Herbert’s forthcoming book chapter “Graduate Student Employee Unionization in the Second Gilded Age“, co-authored with CUNY doctoral student Joseph van der Naald.  The chapter analyzes data from labor representation election results involving graduate assistants in the United States between 2012 and 2019 and contextualizes that data in the half-century history of graduate assistants seeking to unionize at public and private higher education institutions.
