Terence Joseph, native New Yorker and Principal of the Renaissance Charter High School, dedicates his educational career to servicing families of some of New York City’s most at-risk populations. His passion for service was stoked by the student activist environment of Wesleyan University. Upon realizing that teaching was his calling, he received preparation for the educating an urban population through Teachers College Masters in Education program.
During his fourteen year career in education, he has successfully reached students in traditional and charter public schools for high at risk populations. He first taught in Wings Academy in the South Bronx. He moved on to Bronx Prep Charter School, in the South Bronx, where he taught for seven years. While there, he transitioned into leadership positions requiring him to ensure all new teachers received instructional coaching and mentorship to properly service the needs of Bronx Prep’s students. Terence uses his current position as Principal of Renaissance Charter High School for Innovation to ensure the East Harlem’s students receive the academic supports, rigorous classroom environments, and experiential learning opportunities necessary to cultivate innovative, collaborative student leaders and activist. His experiences in various educational settings have reinforced an unshakeable truth – all students want to be successful and crave supportive relationships with their teachers to reach their fullest potential.
