PROGRAM

Roosevelt House is proud to present a screening of the Oscar-nominated documentary short Death by Numbers—written by and starring Hunter College senior Sam Fuentes, a survivor of the tragic 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Following the screening, Fuentes will be joined in conversation by the film’s director Kim A. Snyder and producers Maria Cuomo Cole and Janique L. Robillard.

Death by Numbers turns an intimate lens on Fuentes’ poetic journey to reclaim her power following the shooting. Processing trauma through writing, she prepares for a harrowing confrontation with her assailant at his sentencing hearing—by examining complex questions of collective hatred and community justice.

This event follows up on a 2021 Roosevelt House screening of US Kids, a documentary by the same filmmakers which tracked the rise of a national youth movement in response to the Parkland shooting.
